This book is intended to fulfill two purposes. First, to serve as a companion volume to the author’s earlier work, Comparative Religion, and to give additional meaning to that book by illustrating each of its chapters from original sources. Second, to introduce readers to specimens of the world’s sacred literature in reliable translation, with comments thereon. Its range is wide, extending from the simplest ‘noises with meaning’ employed in primitive cults to the hymns of the twentieth century, and it shows not only how ‘sacred books’ have arisen from the past, but also how they are still being formed today, in the endeavour to preserve, transmit, and revive first-hand religious experience.

Condition
Former library book with the usual markings. The dust jacket has been protected inside the plastic sleeve. The boards and pages are in good condition. From clean, smoke-free home.
Shipping
Generally sent the same day payment arrives. Unless you request otherwise, I will wrap the book in plastic wrap to help protect it from the elements, create a custom-made cardboard box to ship it in, and send via Media Mail with Delivery Confirmation tracking.
