Description

From the Introduction
We Americans talk a great deal about our tradition. What does “tradition” mean? From the viewpoint of the nation’s history, it is the sum total of our exploits and deeds, our struggles and achievements, our sacrifices and labors, our blood and tears, our joys and sorrows, our triumphs and failures. It is everything that is woven into the tapestry of this republic. In the life of the republic of the United States of America, the efforts of gallant men stand out in peace and war. …. Gallant men have faced dangerous and hazardous journeys to widen the borders of man’s freedom. Each in his time contributed to our tradition something which has inspired not only his own generation but the generations that follow.
