Description

From the Back Cover
Fury came forward in an arrow line, ears standing straight up, wide nostrils flaring, wild eyes reflecting the brilliant moon. Jim and Pete held the rope so taut on the ground that they could feel it cutting into their horny palms. The stallion saw the opening in the fence and rushed at it in a straight, true line. Then abruptly, not ten yards away from the crouching men, he stopped and stood still. Jim and Pete looked up at the mighty animal, hardly daring to draw a breath. The magnificent horse flung his head back and sniffed the air. Inside the corral, the mares danced and whimpered, imploring him to join them. Agonizing seconds dragged by, while the wary stallion held the men in painful suspense. And then — slowly and regally — Fury moved forward and crossed the rope. Pete let out a whoop and slammed the corral gate. The startled stallion gave a shrill scream and rose to his hind legs, ready to do battle. He was a second too late — the trap had been sprung. Fury — the jet black stallion of the hills — now belonged to the Broken Wheel Ranch.
