About This Book
A story without words. Using illustrations alone we see Bobo follow his boy to the grocer, then to the park. The boy produces a bone from the package. The boy settles down to read, and the dog to enjoy his bone. A large dog comes along and takes the bone from Bobo. The dog lets the boy know about it. They chase down the dog and the boy gets the bone back. Both are happy and settle down to the same routine. Then Bobo dreams that the boy is playing football with his friends when a group of larger boys take the ball. The boy calls to Bobo to help. In this dream Bobo is very big and scares the boys who return the football. Bobo is the hero. Now returning to their spot under the tree for reading and bone-watching, the large dog comes back to take Bobo’s bone. With his new-found courage, Bobo barks and chases the big dog away — then boy and dog leave together, with large dog licking his lips.
