Description

From the Book Back
Hans Georg Guggenheim tells it all, as it has never been told before, in Around the World in 80 Ways, a blithe-spirited account of his many adventures guiding tour groups entrusted to his care. His diplomatic handling of people and situations is described with enlightening candor: those amorous ladies, perfectly respectable tourists by day who become nocturnal prowlers; the inevitable lost passport; the sudden need for sanitary facilities (which sometimes turn out to be convenient foliage). Mr. Guggenheim has traveled to every known part of the world and has something to say about wherever he has been and whomever he has been with, even when it rains for nineteen days of a three-week tour of western Europe, or when the temperature in Bangkok, Dacca, and Nepal persistently registers over 100 degrees, threatening to decimate the valiant Senior Citizens Club of a small Wisconsin town. Armchair travelers, experienced or otherwise, will identify with Around the World in 80 Ways, and all will chuckle or sigh as they remember the dismal depths and hysterical highs of their own guided tours.
