Description

From the Envelope Back
This ancient full-length wool vest or sleeveless coat may still be seen on Tibetans today on brides, and on festive occasions on actors and actresses portraying celestial beings in sacred plays. Traditionally constructed of simple contrasting panels of handwoven wool, rectangular solid color panels alternate with horizontal striped wedge-shaped panels, creating an overlap front opening. Worn open or belted, the neckband extends to the hem. Facings (indigo-dyed blue on our original) are turned to the inside along the front opening, hem, side vents, and armhole. An additional decorative facing (silken gold brocade on our prototype) is turned to the outside underarm and shoulder area. Instructions are given for optional lining.

Pattern Specifics
Folkwear 118 includes the full-size pattern pieces, and instructions for making the Tibetan Panel Coat. Enlarge the photo for a better look at the details. Let me know if you’d like to see the envelope back. This is sized for Misses’ S-M-L / 6-18. The envelope measures 11-1/4″ x 8-3/4″ and the pattern is printed on bond paper.

Condition
See photo. The envelope is in good condition for age (1979) with some lighter wear, particularly on the corners as would be expected. The pattern and instruction sheets are as new in original factory folds. No names or other markings. From clean, smoke-free home.

Shipping
Generally sent the same day you pay. Unless you request otherwise, I will back this with one piece of box cardboard (to help prevent the Post Office from bending it), wrap it in plastic wrap (to help protect the item from moisture or torn packaging), then send inside a manila envelope when sent via First Class Mail with Delivery Confirmation. This is the cheapest postage option that includes both item protection and tracking. See the shipping page to give you an estimate on the cost of a First Class 3 package. I am delighted to combine postage and insurance costs if you purchase more than one item. The second item may travel for free or just a few cents more — so it’s worth taking a look at my other items before you complete your order.
