Description

From the Book Back
This is his own book — the sermons and prayers of Peter Marshall whose ministry, during his years on earth and since, has won him the love and respect of millions and extended his influence throughout the length and breadth of America. In these messages is the depth of Dr. Marshall’s thinking and preaching during his years in the pulpit of Washington’s historic New York Avenue Presbyterian Church and as Chaplain of the United States Senate. During his lifetime people stood in lines for hours each Sunday surrounding Peter Marshall’s church, waiting to hear him, preach. Senators left their committee meetings to listen to his famous Senate prayers. And here is a selection of these sermons and prayers. There are no other sermons like these, for there was no other like Peter Marshall. This book is addressed not to the rich and illustrious (although they sat in his pews) but to the clerk, motorman, housewife and student, to the man he preferred to call.. “Mr. Jones.”
