About the Story
Mother Bear woke up Little Bear with “Winter is over and spring is here.” He went to the meadow to play with his friends, and found out they were telling stories of Christmas. Since he had slept through it, they shared their stories with him. He went home and asked his mom about why they never celebrated Christmas. She explained that this is the time bears must sleep — but that he can have fun all spring, summer and fall. And he did. As the days got colder, his mother told him it was time to the long sleep. He said he wanted to stay up for Christmas. As hard as he tried, he could not do it. As his forest friends got ready for Christmas they had an idea: they could wake up Little Bear just for Christmas, then let him get back to sleep. So that’s what they did. All Christmas Eve he celebrated Christmas with his friends. Then Santa Claus came with presents for them. It was the best time Little Bear ever had. When it was all over, the animals took Little Bear to his den and tucked him into bed. At the first signs of Spring his mother woke him up, and apologized that they missed Christmas. “But I didn’t, Mommy!” said Little Bear. “I didn’t miss Christmas! And it was wonderful!” She thought he had had a nice dream. They she spies the presents from Santa.
