Description

About the Story
Victor’s Peruvian village suffered a mudslide that devastated many buildings, including the school. Tourists also stopped coming to buy the knitted and woven woolen goods due to the mud. The village was in trouble. Victor and his sister Yolanda had an idea: if tourists can’t come to buy their goods, could the goods go to where the tourists live? They contacted cousin Luis who had gone to University and had traveled. He contacted some friends in the United States who put some examples of their work into a Folk Art Museum. The front cover of museum booklet featured Victor’s drawing of a villager weaving a mat. And from that exhibit two shop owners vied for the chance to exclusively sell these goods. The village worked together to get things shipped out to where they could be sold. The money would rebuild the school – and perhaps get more art supplies for Victor.
