Description

The Story
A newspaper headline … the arrival of an angry brother … a   friendly  but duty-bound policeman … all conspire against the happiness of
two people on their way to a concert in the park. When Steve Crane was with Anne, he dreamed of all the things he might have been. In the meantime, he managed to keep his sordid, law-breaking past a secret from her. While waiting in the park for her to meet him one night, he is suddenly confronted by Allan, Anne’s angry and accusing brother, who threatens to tell the police of a shooting the night before — a shooting in which Steve was involved. As a price for his silence, Allan demands Steve’s promise to give up Anne and never see her again…. “How long can you go on fabricating lies that will someday break her heart?” Allan taunts. “Liar! Cheat! Thief! Perhaps she can forgive you for being that, but can she forgive you for being a — a murderer?” Then Anne comes with her wonderful news! She has just been granted an important music scholarship! … Suddenly, Steve realizes that he has a frightening and final choice to make: he must sacrifice either Anne’s happiness and her promising musical career … or himself! … As the strains of the concert music rise to a climax, he makes his decision — hoping that Anne will always remember him for what he might have been, had their dreams been permitted to become a reality.
