Will Rogers never met a man he didn’t like and generations all over the world adored him. His cowboy tricks and country wit were the hallmarks of a career that made him a star in Texas Jack’s Wild West Circus, vaudeville and the Ziegfeld Follies. But it was radio, film and print that turned an Oklahoma hayseed into a certified celebrity. What Will Rogers became was the conscience and comfort of a nation. Entertainer, social humorist and world traveler, he was spokesman for an era that stretched from World War I to the Great Depression. His voice announced the comic truths of the day and turned a loveable court jester into one of America’s most enduring folk heros.
