Cops and Robbers traces the infamous roots of early America and the emergence of big city crime. From Plymouth Rock to Hell’s Kitchen, every generation has witnessed the battle between the forces of law and order and those determined to break it. Black-beard, Jesse James, John Dillenger, Al Capone — these were the first rogues and gangland kings to capture the public’s imagination. But, with prohibition came the specter of a “Black Hand” pointing to an underworld movement that threatened to take much more. It was a time when “Coppers” and G-men needed every weapon criminal science could provide to keep a nation from slipping over the edge.
